I get a ton of emails about how to lose belly fat?
“How can I get rid of my muffin top?”
“After giving birth to 2 kids, my tummy looks horrible… help!”
This idea that our bellies can snap back to what we look like prior to having kids, is unreal. In fact, I’ve struggled with a muffin top for years.
It wasn’t until I changed my diet, that I noticed a huge difference. Trust me, there is no magic “pill,” girdle, waist trimmer, or ab workout that will help you get rid of that pot belly! (I say that affectionately). I laugh at myself because, I too, tried those belly binding methods, and they always left me with a stinkin’ rash or some sort of stomach pain.
A significant number of women who’ve given birth have Diastasis recti, a condition in which the abdominal muscles spread apart. The left and right muscles widen, causing your belly to stick out. We’re constantly beating ourselves up over our diet, high sugar intake, not doing enough crunches etc., unaware of the fact that our conditions are directly related to having given birth. While I believe this condition can be improved with the proper diet and exercise, we have to quit being so hard on ourselves.
Being a mother is the most rewarding experience ever! Yes, it can be draining but I wouldn’t trade it for a flat, stretch mark free belly any day.
(Yes, I have stretch marks!)
Lets face it, these bellies of ours gave birth to little tiny angels, who will grow and impact the world. Your nice set of abs… well hey, they’ll just be some nice set of abs! That’s it! (But no harm in having them!)
While on your health and fitness journeys, remember to strive for progress, not perfection! So, show that belly some love with a lil’ rub!
